Blueprint for IS-BAO

Research the Standard

  • Familiarize yourself with the standard
  • Interview IS-BAO standards subject matter experts and accredited auditors
  • Why IS-BAO?
    • ICAO Annex 6, PART II http://www.ibac.org/Files/ICAO/SL/State%20letter
    • FAA AC 120-92 http://www.airweb.faa.gov/Safety Management Systems
    • Reciprocity all EU countries and beyond http://www.ainonline.com/news/
    • Significant reduction in annual insurance premiums (In most cases will provide immediate 100% ROI, cumulative initial expenditures for new or updated manuals and audit costs). Talk to your insurance agent and/or insurance companies that recognize IS-BAO as the gold standard
    • Avoid operational anomalies (delays, missed trips, etc.) due to non-compliance with Safety and Security Standards in EU and beyond
    • Document and prove to your leadership that your department is truly a "world class" operation. Provide definitive answers and information for company employee/department evaluations

imgCommit to IS-BAO Registration

  • Budget for your success
  • Purchase the IS-BAO http://ibac.org/isbao_ordering.php
  • Set milestones and a final registration date
  • Achieve "buy-in" from every member of the department and the senior leadership team of your company
  • Interview IBAC accredited IS-BAO auditors

Get to Work!

  • Audit your manuals versus the IS-BAO. Determine whether new manuals are required or if changes, updates or a complete re-write is necessary.
  • Self audit your entire department using the IS-BAO. Rule of thumb - If it is not documented.... It is not taking place. If you can't produce a procedure and/or paper trail; chances are your auditor will not be able to either. DO NOT put your department and auditor in an uncomfortable position when so much is at stake!
  • Contract with an IBAC accredited auditor. Get them copies of applicable manuals and documents. Familiarize them with your operation. Involve them in your self audit. Schedule IS-BAO audit.
  • Complete all required tasks and milestones resulting from self audits.

  • Implement and/or correct any minor discrepancies
  • Reward team members for job WELL DONE!
  • Never stop living and improving your IS-BAO registered SMS and department!
  • Set milestones and date for IS-BAO Stage TWO Registration (24 months)
